Response off of Synthesis Page

In the book After 3 by Anna Todd I noticed a certain pattern between some of the characters. Most of their decisions and actions seemed to be based off of the two main characters, Harry and Tessa. Both Harry and Tessa have very different personalties that are both very influencing, good and bad. Both Harry and Tessa's personalities affect other characters. I also noticed that each act of influence on another character brings out a side to them the readers haven't seen.

For instance, towards the end of the book Tessa decides to fulfill her life-long dream of moving to Seattle. Harry, being the protective boyfriend he is, tries to stop her because he doesn't want to go but, being the determined person she is, goes on without him. Another character in the story who Harry despises is Zayn. Zayn has a crush on Tessa and this really bothers Harry. So when Zayn tells Tessa he wants to meet her in Seattle Harry is furious. He makes a visit to Zayn's house and threatens him not to go. Zayn and Harry have a past of fighting over Tessa and Harry always ends up winning so you would assume Zayn would just give up by now. However, after Harry's visit Zayn goes to Seattle. I think Harry's temper and rudeness causes Zayn the need to be rebellious. I think this urge to be rebellious is because he wants to get a reaction out of Harry and also because he wants to show Harry that is he isn't scared of him. Zayn knows that Tessa is all that is keeping Harry from breaking apart and Zayn obviously wants to see what will happen if he messes up this connection.

In addition, whenever Harry and Tessa fight, Harry always has a hurtful comeback that he knows will hurt her. Now, however, Tessa is quick to fire back and defend herself. I think Harry's temper and uncontrolled rude remarks have caused Tessa to grow a hard shell and become more brave and cunning. Also taking into consideration that Tessa and Harry have always had some form of tension between them since the day they met, even though they love each other. Switching positions I noticed that Tessa has an influence on Harry as well. Harry admits to himself in the book that he's grown emotionally weaker and softer since he fell in love with Tessa. Ever since Tessa came into his life he's been able to control his temper better, day by day. I know that she is a good influence on him because whenever he's not around her his temper is out of control.

Lastly, I also noticed that ever since Tessa's father came into her life, 9 years after he left her when she was small, he has been changing slowly into a better man. When Tessa ran into him for the first time since she was little he was drunk and homeless and seemed to be on dangerous drugs. Tessa took him into her home and cleaned him up. Now he's been turning down alcohol and has been showing signs such as throwing up and feeling sick meaning that he is getting over his addiction to a drug he was on. I also noticed this pattern with Harry. Harry was an alcoholic and slept with a different woman every night and took many toxic drugs. Ever since Tessa started showing her love for him he's become sober and only has eyes for her. I think Tessa's kind and pure personality has a really great affect on people who have lost their past in life. Her love fixes up their broken lives.

After finishing this book I realized that people's personality's have a very large effect on other's actions. Personality traits, good or bad, can greatly influence others around them who may love them or hate them. Tessa and Harry both loved each other and changed each other in many drastic ways because of the influence of both of their very different personality's. Love conquers all.
